Big Road Trip: Day Three and Four

Day 3, as I explained before, will be spent driving.  It will be the longest driving day in the trip.  It is the big push to get us out of "The South" and into "The West".  We will drive from San Antonio to Tucson, AZ.

Now, I am not a hot weather person.  Anyone who knows me at all can tell you that.  But I love Arizona.

It is hot.  Very, very hot.  But it's completely different from the heat we have over here in the Southeast.  You don't feel as....stifled? I guess is the term I'm looking for.  Even at temperatures over 100 degrees in Arizona, I can still breathe and I don't feel as claustrophobic as I do when the temperatures hit anywhere above 80 degrees here.

And Arizona is beautiful.  In this strange and barren way, it is one of the prettiest places in the US.

So I'm looking forward even to the driving part of this day's trip up through Arizona.

We will be ending this day at the Grand Canyon.  I honestly can't even describe the Grand Canyon to you.  It's one of those things that you kinda know is going to be really cool.....and then you actually see it and it completely takes your breath away.

This is Havasu Falls....I'm hoping to get over to this if time allows. (I think it will)

So.  That's Day Three and Four.  I really really really can't freaking wait for this trip.

Big Road Trip: Day Two

WooHoo!  So, after our day in New Orleans, we're packing up and heading to San Antonio....which, IMO, is one of only two places worth spending money to go visit in Texas.

Things to do here:

Remember the Alamo!

Go to this ginormous cool mall....

And enjoy the sights along the Riverwalk.

There's a Coyote Ugly bar on the Riverwalk, that I would at least like to go to once.

Unfortunately, the entire next day will be spent driving....thirteen and a half hours to Tucson, Arizona....where the strange beauty of the desert will begin.  Squeeeeeeee!!!

Big Road Trip: Day One

I have a dream.  It's something that I've wanted to do since I was in high school.

I want to go on a cross-country road trip with my two best friends.

I want to do this for many reasons.  Because I miss the old days when we'd pack into my old Nissan Maxima station wagon (with a sunroof!) and drive to the beach, to my Dad's, around our hometown 1000 times on a Friday night.  Because I road trips are the epitome of freedom; where to go, how to get there, what to do on the way, it's all completely up to the traveler.  And mainly, because I LOVE the West, and I want to share the experience of being there with my friends....and also so the crazy looks will stop when I gush about how badly I want to live there. You can see all the pictures and movies in the world that show you the West, but until you stand beside the Grand Canyon, or you put your hand on a Redwood tree, or you listen to the waves of the Pacific hit the cliffs of the coast............you just don't feel it like it should be felt.

So.  I'm saving my money.  By then end of the year, I will have $1500 set back for this trip, even more by the time we finally get to go.  And I'm going to detail my tentative plan for our big road trip over several posts.

Day One:  We will leave South Georgia and head to New Orleans.  Not a very long trip, in comparison, but a good way to ease us into trip.

We're gonna peruse the French Quarter and be all tourist-y.  Try to find a restaurant that both me and Krystle can eat at.  Seeing as she's allergic to shell fish and I'm allergic to the peppers in most Cajun seasoning, this might be an exercise in futility.

Maybe see if we can hunt down celebrity houses....don't Sandra Bullock and Brangelina live there now?

And we'll buy Mardi Gras masks to commemorate our stop.
